The 21st Annual Westport Island Shore Run 10K Road Race takes place this year on Sunday, August 16, 2026, beginning at 9:00 am at the Old Town Hall, 181 Main Road (Route 144) (just south of the Squire Tarbox Inn) on bridge-accessible Westport Island, Maine.  (The Fun Walk will start at 8:30am).  Last year's event - our 20th anniversary - had almost 90 participants, a Westport Island Shore Run record! 

In this exciting race, you will run on a USATF-certified course through scenic pine and fir tree forests and over two bridges spanning inlets to Heal Cove and Montsweag Bay.  The Damariscotta, Maine Lincoln County News has called the Westport Island Shore Run a "beautiful course," and a "very exciting run."  Come run in Maine's best little 10K race!  All proceeds after expenses will benefit the brave firefighters of the Westport Island Volunteer Fire Department.  Over the past 20 years, the race has donated over $30,000 to the firefighters!

The 3.5 mile "Fun Walk" starts at the Old Town Hall at 8:30 a.m.  The 10K Road Race begins at 9:00 a.m. at the Old Town Hall.  Race packets may be picked up at the Old Town Hall beginning at 7:30 a.m. on race day.  Race Day Registration also begins at 7:30 a.m. at the Old Town Hall.  On site parking available at the Old Town Hall.  

PLEASE NOTE:  Participant t-shirts are only guaranteed if you register online by no later than July 30, 2026 at 5p.m. 

The 10K road race course starting line is about 250 feet north of the Old Town Hall on the Main Road at the marked starting line; the runners will race on a USATF-certified course due south along the Main Road, then west, north and ultimately east along the rolling hills of West Shore Road, through scenic pine and fir tree forests and over two causeways spanning inlets to Heal Cove and Montsweag Bay.  The course then returns to the Main Road after a long climb from the last causeway, and finishes back at the Old Town Hall.  

Runners should begin to head up the road towards the start line no later than 8:45 am. Note: the 3.5 mile "Fun Walk" starts just south of the Old Town Hall at 8:30 am sharp at the marked starting line, and then proceeds south on the Main Road, turning right onto Post Office Road.   

The race will be computer timed by 5K Sports Management, with mile markers along the course.  There will be two water stations - at Mile 2 and Mile 4, and refreshments at the end of the race and walk for participants.  All participants will be entered in the post-race raffle for items donated by sponsors and friends of the event.  There will be medals for the top three male and female runners, and age category medals as well.
